Evidence Informed – Industry Standard
According to the Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE), training and professional development provides learning opportunities for all early child care professionals, from entry-level assistants to multi-site administrators. Ongoing trainings designed to enhance professionals’ knowledge, skills, and abilities ensure that staff are able to best support the children and families they care for. Professional development includes goal setting, skill-based training, attending conferences, collaborating with peers, conducting performance evaluations, advancing careers, and more. For additional information, visit DCDEE’s webpage on Training and Professional Development.
Trainings and professional development opportunities must be aligned with the requirements outlined in N.C.G.S. § 110-91(11) and 10A NCAC 09 .1103. These state guidelines describe expectations for training and professional development opportunities based on staff members’ experience and education, applicable topics for professional development, and define key terms such as “regionally accredited colleges or universities” and “countable technical assistance.”
