Brief Description

Brief one-on-one consultation delivered by a practitioner who provides regular support to parents who have one or two concerns with their child's behavior or development. Must be provided in conjunction with other programs, such as Triple P Level 3- Primary Care, Triple P Level 4- Triple P Online, or Triple P Level 4- Standard.

Core Components for Model Fidelity

  • Paired Program(s): Triple P Level 2- Brief Primary Care must be provided in conjunction with at least one other model that is more intensive in order to collect pre/post data and analyze participant-level outcomes. Brief Primary Care cannot be implemented as a standalone program. NCPC strongly recommends pairing Brief Primary Care with Triple P Level 3- Primary Care, Triple P Level 4- Triple P Online, or Triple P Level 4- Standard. 
  • Session Topics: Brief Primary Care Triple P provides brief, targeted, one-on-one supoort to assist parents in developing parenting plans to manage behavioral issues (e.g. tantrums, fighting, going shopping) and skill development issues (e.g. eating independently, toilet training, staying in bed at night). Session topics include:
    • Session 1: Assessment of the presenting problem and developing a parenting plan
    • Session 2: Review of implementation

  In person, virtual via teleconference or telephone calls, or a combination

Dosage

1-2 one on one consultation sessions delivered over 4-6 weeks, with each session lasting 15-30 minutes each.

Infrastructure for Implementation

Materials: Parents receive selected Tip Sheets and 1 Positive Parenting Booklet. Practitioners receive Practitioners Kit for Primary Care Triple P, sample Triple P Tip Sheet Series, Positive Parenting Booklet, and access to the Triple P Provider Network including the Every Parent Survival Guide video.

Staffing Requirements

NCPC strongly recommends staff receive training in the Standards of Quality for Family Support and Strengthening. Contact Positive Childhood Alliance North Carolina (PCANC) or National Family Support Network (NFSN) for more information, training, and certification.
